In April and May 2025, as many young people completed their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and began adjusting to life beyond secondary school, Earth Peace Action (EPAc) recognised the need to engage them positively. Many were talented, but needed opportunities and platforms to develop their potential.
In response, EPAc organised a community football competition that brought together six communities in an atmosphere of sportsmanship, leadership, learning and positive exposure.

More Than a Football Competition
Beyond the matches, the initiative created opportunities for young people to learn about the responsible use of the internet and the importance of developing practical skills. It reflected EPAc’s belief that sport can be a powerful tool for youth engagement, personal development and community connection.
At the end of the competition, IbukunOluwa Community emerged as the winner. The final was attended by the community chairman, Mr Haruna, who commended the initiative and showed support for the winning team.
Coaches also expressed their appreciation, noting that many young people possess considerable football talent but lack the platforms needed to showcase and develop it. They particularly appreciated that the tournament was organised transparently and that the promised awards were presented as expected.
Creating Pathways for Young Talent
For EPAc, the greatest fulfilment has been seeing some of the participating young people gain opportunities to join football academies and pursue their sporting ambitions.
However, many talented players still lack proper football kits and other basic equipment that could support their development. EPAc hopes to mobilise support to help these young people access the resources they need to continue pursuing their talents.
The experience reinforced an important lesson: young people need opportunities, guidance and practical support to turn their abilities into meaningful possibilities.
Through initiatives like this, EPAc continues to promote youth empowerment, community participation and positive development.
