Empowering Young People for Climate Action: EPAc’s One-Month Virtual Summer Training in 2023

In 2023, Earth Peace Action (EPAc) organised a one-month virtual summer training programme to help young people understand climate change, embrace sustainability and recognise how their everyday activities affect the Earth.

The programme provided a learning platform for teenagers to explore environmental challenges, understand the importance of responsible living and develop greater awareness of their role in protecting the planet. By bringing together trainers from different countries and backgrounds, EPAc created an opportunity for young participants to learn beyond geographical boundaries and engage with diverse perspectives on environmental sustainability.

A Global Learning Experience

One of the programme’s defining features was its international team of trainers and contributors. The training brought together voices from Saudi Arabia, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Sri Lanka and Nigeria, giving participants access to a range of perspectives on climate change and environmental responsibility.

The trainers and contributors included Atif Alqahtani, MSc, from Saudi Arabia; Annamaria Berek from New Zealand; Lisa Hof from the Netherlands; Indrachapa Ruberu from Sri Lanka; and Adebisi Ebun, Comfort Francis Apeh, Bennett Oyinna and Ibiso Ikoroma-Owiye from Nigeria.

Their participation helped make the programme a significant learning experience, connecting teenagers with people beyond their immediate communities and encouraging them to think about environmental challenges as a shared global responsibility.

Building Environmental Awareness Among Teenagers

The one-month programme focused on developing participants’ awareness of climate change, sustainability and the relationship between human activities and the environment. It encouraged young people to reflect on how individual choices and collective behaviour can affect the Earth.

For EPAc, engaging teenagers in environmental education is an important part of building a generation that understands sustainability and is better equipped to participate in climate action. Young people need opportunities not only to learn about environmental challenges but also to recognise their capacity to contribute to solutions within their homes, schools and communities.

Investing in a Sustainable Future

The 2023 virtual summer training reflected EPAc’s commitment to education, youth empowerment and environmental sustainability. It also demonstrated the value of international collaboration in expanding young people’s access to knowledge and perspectives.

By creating a space for teenagers to learn about climate change and environmental responsibility, EPAc contributed to the wider effort to make sustainability an important part of youth development.

At Earth Peace Action, we believe that meaningful environmental progress requires awareness, participation and shared responsibility across generations.
