Next Generation Power – Rise Up: Empowering Young People Through Practical Learning, Innovation and Sustainability

In April 2026, Earth Peace Action (EPAc) delivered Next Generation Power – Rise Up, a youth-development programme designed to help young people discover their abilities, develop innovative ideas, solve problems and explore practical solutions to environmental and sustainability challenges.

The programme engaged 74 young people aged 7–18 through a learning approach that placed strong emphasis on practical participation, with approximately 80% of the programme dedicated to hands-on learning. Its sessions encouraged participants to think creatively, identify challenges in their surroundings and develop ideas that could contribute to positive change.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Next Generation Power – Rise Up was built around the belief that young people should have opportunities to discover their potential by doing, creating, experimenting and solving real-world problems.

The programme covered personal development, innovation, waste transformation, energy conservation, food-related sustainability and practical problem-solving. Through these sessions, participants were encouraged to connect knowledge with action and recognise their capacity to contribute to their communities.

Programme Sessions and Facilitators

The programme featured facilitators who led sessions across different themes:

Zero Waste, Feed More — Arc. Aminat O. Ajenifujah-Abubakar, PhD

These sessions encouraged participants to explore their strengths, generate ideas, think critically, understand sustainability and consider how creative thinking can be applied to everyday challenges.

Turning Ideas into Practical Solutions

A key feature of the programme was its emphasis on practical learning. The Trash to Treasure session encouraged creative thinking around waste, while the energy and zero-waste sessions introduced themes related to responsible resource use and sustainability.

During the Founder and Executive Director’s Day, participants undertook an assessment and received practical instruction on converting plastic materials into usable items. This activity reinforced the programme’s emphasis on learning through application and exploring ways to give discarded materials renewed value.

By combining different learning themes with practical activities, EPAc sought to encourage young participants to move beyond simply identifying problems and begin thinking about possible solutions.

Recognising the Technical Team

The programme was supported by a technical team whose contributions helped facilitate its delivery. The team comprised:

Oladimeji Victor

Victor Fadiora

Ogunsuru Blessing

Eniola Akindiose

Tarzar Abraham — Logistics

Their support formed part of the coordinated effort required to deliver a programme involving multiple sessions and practical learning activities.

Building Young Innovators and Sustainability Advocates

Next Generation Power – Rise Up reflected EPAc’s commitment to youth empowerment, creativity, education and environmental sustainability. By giving young people opportunities to explore ideas, participate in practical activities and engage with real-world challenges, the programme aimed to nurture confidence, initiative and a problem-solving mindset.

The experience also demonstrated the value of bringing facilitators and technical support together to create learning opportunities that connect personal development with community and environmental responsibility.

EPAc remains committed to developing practical programmes that empower young people, strengthen communities and promote sustainable development.
